The threatened gopher tortoise, Georgias state reptile, makes its home in the parks longleaf pine forest. At 437 acres, this stand of trees is the largest group of longleaf pines in a Georgia state park. A 2.2-mile nature trail interprets this wiregrass community habitat. The park is located near one of Georgias largest wildlife management areas covering 24,000 acres, providing great duck and deer hunting. Cottages and many campsites are situated on the waters edge, offering excellent lake views.
